While many of us can agree that health care reform is something that needs to happen, not many of us agree on how it should happen. Once again in his presidency, President Obama is going to grace the national spotlight with a press conference to reassure you’re darkest health care fears, and hopefully destroy any doubts you may have about how this health care reform will change your life.
It wasn’t long ago when President Obama used his celebrity presidency to grace primetime TV with an interview to, once again, reassure the American people. In his news conference tonight, President Obama will probably discuss the Senate’s progress on the bill, any changes that have been made, and sue his political standing and approval to cheerlead the passage of his health care reform.
As many have mentioned, and many of you here on the site have said, this bill could either make or break his presidency. It is going to either destroy his presidency or sky rocket it. With the deadline of August looming so closely, Obama is hoping things start moving a little faster, but passing a bill that will cost billions of dollars is not an easy process, for Democrats or Republicans.
Who’s going to pay for this reform? What programs are being cut to save money to pay for this reform? Are taxes going up? Are the rich going to be penalized for the poor? Do we even have a say?
These are all things that we’ve been hearing around the office, and through your comments. But, then again, new studies are coming out that are saying, on top of the 49 million people who cannot afford health insurance, each family across this nation will pay at least $15,000 for their health care costs this year alone. (NYTImes)
A report by the Commonwealth Fund, a private foundation that supports independent research on health policy reform, found that roughly three of every four people who tried to buy a policy from the individual health insurance market in the past three years didn’t get one.(ABCNews) The reason for this is that people simply cannot afford the unbelievable premiums and deductibles that insurance companies want to charge.
Something’s definitely got to give, there is no doubt about that, but is this the best way? You know what I’m going to say next…at the No Insurance Club, we believe we have found the best way. Politics aside, this is where you can get the best and most affordable health care. If you take out the politics, and the middle man, and the overpriced and overly greedy insurance companies, what do you have left? You have the doctor, and the patient, and nothing else.
