The hardest working Americans are struggling, and there truly is no end in sight. We thought that perhaps healthcare reform would bring some relief to those middle class Americans who continue to fall through the cracks, but, alas, that is far from the truth. In fact, the latest version of the healthcare reform bill, according to Politico, places a tax on the middle class. Will it ever end?
The middle class has been struggling with healthcare for a long time now. Simply get on Google and search “middle class healthcare” and a multitude of stories about struggling Americans appear, with the years ranging from early 2003 until today. The story never changes, and the same class of Americans continue to struggle.
“Falling through the cracks” is no longer just a cliché, it’s literally become the motto of the middle class. While those who fall below the poverty line get government assistance, and those who are far above it can afford to get that VIP medicine, it’s the middle class that have nowhere to go.
Everywhere you look there are contradicting statements on how the healthcare reform bill will affect the middle class. There are news sources saying that the bill will add a tax onto the middle class. Then there are other sources that will tell you that tax will only apply to those making over $250,000. There are so many stories out there; it’s hard to know what to believe.
So what do you believe? On the local AZ news this morning there was a story about a middle class family who was bombarded with medical bills after their son was hospitalized. His illness led to treatments upon treatments, and though the family looked for help with their bills, the only response they got was to get a divorce so that the boy’s mother could get government help.
With the healthcare bill one step closer to passing, will it be the middle class that pays the bill?
