The movement in the United States that is trying to nationalize the healthcare system, making it more like Europe, leaves out little bits of data and statistics about nationalized medical care programs.
A 2006 census estimated 46.6 million people in the United States with no health insurance. Of this, 9.5 million without insurance were not United States citizens. About 17 million lived in households with incomes above $50k a year, so they could have purchased their own health insurance but choose to go without medical coverage. An estimated 18 million of the uninsured were between the ages of 18 and 34.
Only 30 percent of the non-elderly people that lost their medical insurance did not find replacement health coverage within a year. 50 percent of people regained medical insurance within 4 months.
The government run healthcare systems support 43 million under Medicare and 51 million people under Medicaid. Both of these healthcare programs are going bankrupt.
What do you think about politicians plans to have a big government healthcare program?
