The Golden Rule use to mean “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” It was simple, decent, and the way things should be. My freshman sports writing professor drilled it into our heads again and again, telling us that if we didn’t remember anything else about journalism, remember The Golden Rule. He was an interesting guy.
But, The Golden Rule seems to have gone by the wayside with Wall Street literally ripping out that page in the books and stomping all over it with their Italian business shoes before sleeping in a bed made of 100 dollar bills. Maybe we should get back to that Golden Rule.
Apparently United Health had the same idea when they began offering Golden Rule Insurance. Perhaps they thought the name alone would garner enough attention to veer patients away from the outrageous premiums.
After researching the different Golden Rule plans, I am still failing to find the “do unto others as you would have them to unto you” part. It mostly feels like “business as usual.” Based on an estimate done here in the office, a featured preferred plan with the Golden Rule would run a healthy family of five over $300 a month, with a deductible of only $10,000.
Now, here at No Insurance Club we don’t play the “bash your competition” game. We’ve been through this before, and we’re just another frog in a pond with some really big fish…and piranhas. Here’s the deal; an affordable and reliable health care company like No Insurance Club will cost a family of five less than two months of what the Golden Rule costs. Seriously, for an entire year’s worth of doctor’s visits, it will cost you 2 MONTHS of what they charge!
Golden Rule Insurance also offers a “tax-favored saving account” called an HSA. What a great idea, right? However, if you find an affordable health care solution like No Insurance Club, why not just take the money you save on monthly premiums and put it towards your own savings account?
How about this Golden Rule; we will treat you the way that we’d like to be treated. Isn’t that the way it’s supposed to be?
