Wayman Tisdale was a great man. His full life led him to three NBA teams, an Olympic birth, and an extremely successful career as a bassist. Tisdale was a man among men; talented, genuine, and friendly.
Wayman Tisdale passed away on May 15, after a two-year battle with cancer. The battle took his leg, but never his dignity. Tisdale was diagnosed with bone cancer in 2007, after falling down a flight of stairs and breaking his leg. When the family doctor went to examine his leg, he found something much worse.
Tisdale underwent extensive chemotherapy, and made some great strides towards recovery. Last August, however, complications led to his leg being amputated. But, no matter what troubles lay in his path, Wayman Tisdale continued to keep high spirits.
“Nothing can change me,” Wayman Tisdale told The Associated Press last June. “You go through things. You don’t change because things come in your life. You get better because things come in your life.”
