It’s simply just a sad state of affairs. Last month along nearly 663,000 employees lost their jobs. The obvious conclusion there is that many of those U.S citizens now do not have adequate health care coverage for themselves and their families. If they are covered by Cobra, it’s a scary prospect as to how long that coverage will last. In this economy it could realistically take longer then expected to find employment. Forty-six million people in the U.S. did not have health coverage in 2007, and that was before our current recession!
“We estimate that 2.4 million workers have lost the health coverage their jobs provided since the start of the recession, based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Approximately, 1.3 million of these losses have occurred in the last four months. More than 320,000 Americans lost their employer-provided health insurance in March alone, which amounts to approximately 10,680 workers a day.” - Center for American Progress
