The economic meltdown is hurting American families financially and causing more to go without health insurance.
The government helps pay for medical insurance for people that are extremely poor or over the age of 65. But the majority of American’s health insurance is not covered by those programs. They purchase private medical insurance, usually through their employer.
A health advocacy group estimated that 87 million people under the age of 65 went without health insurance in 2008. This group of people risk serious illness without medical insurance.
Most medical doctors have to reject people without health insurance and there are few options with community health centers. And community health clinics have seen demand soar since the economic crisis hit last year.
Middle class Americans who have lost their jobs are amid them.
Medical doctors are advising that preventive care is the best way to curb costly health treatments.
