No joke! Pfizer is offering 12 months of free drugs to those who have just been laid off and have lost their medical coverage. Having no insurance does not necessarily mean that you won’t be able to get that Viagra anymore.
Pfizer is extending this offer to all patients who have been taking the drug for the past three months, and who continue to need the medication. And it’s not just Viagra. Diabetes patients can continue to get their needed medication, as well as more than 70 other Pfizer produced medications.
Is it a PR stunt? Of course. Will it work? You bet it will. Pfizer understands what the recession is doing to people’s wallets, and knows that financially many cannot afford to keep using the good stuff. Most patients are switching to generic, or refusing treatment all together. With this campaign, Pfizer will not only keep the patients that currently have, their goodwill will probably bring them many more.
“There’s a long-term benefit there, beyond the goodwill and the publicity,” said David Heupel, health care portfolio manager at Thrivent Large Cap Growth Fund. “Pfizer is trying to maintain their (market) share, if not grow their share” by keeping people from switching to generic versions of its drugs to save money. – MSNBC
Pfizer also knows (because it is an active member) that the Medical Mafia has continued to raise prescription drug prices and premiums to cover their dwindling patient base. In the eyes of the public, big medical businessman are no better than the big shots on Wall Street. Pfizer is hoping to redesign their image from Big Bad Wolf, to one of the three bears.
No Insurance Club…we’ll we’re just another frog in the pond who’s about to make a big splash!
