How the medical mafia got a seat at the table
That’s the headline we’ll be reading in a few years, maybe in history books to come if President Obama’s Health Care Reform Plan
works out. The medical mafia (health care and insurance executives) wasn’t stupid when they “voluntarily” offered to help cut $2 trillion in health care costs. They just assured themselves a seat in the White House, across from the big guy during every discussion regarding their field and upcoming health care reform decisions. Pretty smart, huh?
For the health care and insurance executives, the savings initiative helps them secure a seat at the table where many decisions about their future will be made in the next year. They also ingratiated themselves with Democrats in the White House and Congress who are moving swiftly to reshape the nation’s health care system. – New York Times
It would appear right off-hand that some productive changes are being made in an effort to save money. According to the NYTimes, many have began phasing out the archaic tradition of over-charging women and refusing service for pre-existing conditions. I will believe that one when I see it.
However, it always comes down to money. While the medical mafia is vowing to do their part to cut costs, they cringe every time President Obama mentions cutting payments to their private Medicare Advantage by a total of $176 billion over 10 years. They are
worried that in the end, these changes will not add a ‘cost-benefit’ to their bottom line.
Sure, the No Insurance Club might be a small fish in a big pond full of piranhas (medical mafia), but it’s programs like this one that literally work for the patient. With the piranhas working their way into the White House pond farther and farther, it’s the little fish that are left to help out those who have fallen between the cracks and are standing just outside the White House front gates.
