It’s a grand old flag indeed that America celebrates on Flag Day, Sunday.
I Am The Flag

I am the United States of America Flag.
I was born on June 14th, 1777
I stand for “One Nation Under God”.
I wave as a sentinel for freedom’s call.
I am the symbol by grace for liberty.
I lead the brave for freedoms cause.
I am the inspiration for world democracy.
I salute in silence over the honored dead.

I fly through war and peace, strife and prosperity.
I acclaim honor, respect, and defend liberty.
I hail in a lofty position as justice for all.
My patriot’s standing strong to not let me fall.

I am known for my red, white, and blue.
I am more than material of design and hue.
My national colors are recognized uniquely.
I am suspended for the spirit of equality.

I keep the fires of patriotism burning.
I shall remain the bulwark of peace offering.
I am the US symbol of God’s freedom and grace.
I am “Old Glory” and proudly do I wave.

Here are some facts about the Stars and Stripes and events honoring it:
Flag City: In 1974, Congress designated Findlay in northwestern Ohio as Flag City, U.S.A. The flag-waving title was the result of a community effort led by Findlay resident John B. Cooke, who believed every house in Findlay should fly the flag on Flag Day.
By dawn’s early light: You’ve sung the first verse of the national anthem, but do you know the second, third and fourth? Read Francis Scott Key’s words inspired by the September 1814 bombardment of Baltimore’s Fort McHenry during the War of 1812 — americanhistory.si.edu/starspangledbanner/the-lyrics.aspx.

On the moon: On July 20, 1969, Apollo 11 astronauts Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong planted an American flag on the moon. The flag was specially structured to stand as if waving on the no-wind moon. Take the time Sunday and wave your flag in honor of ‘Flag Day’. The U.S. is a proud nation and our colors are known world-wide for freedom’s cause. Nearly every nation on earth has benefited from the generosity and the support of the United States of America. I for one am a proud American and I do not apologize for our liberties and for helping other nations achieve those same liberties. Now is the time to stand up for our colors and boast ‘Proud to be an American’ just as Lee Greenwood sings in his titled song. May God continue to bless America as we are still a “Christian Nation” and we still site ‘One Nation Under God” in our National Pledge!
