Happy Constitution Day!! Seriously. On September 17, 1787, the Philadelphia Convention penned the oldest, and shortest, constitution in the world. On this historical day, George Washington, Ben Franklin, James Madison, and many others signed the most historical document in our American history, thus beginning the story that is America.
The U.S. Constitution was the first of its kind to offer freedom and liberty to its people. The first of its kind to undermine a ruling king with the will of the people, to disregard any aristocracy or bloodlines by putting the pursuit of individual happiness above tyranny. The U.S. Constitution is the backbone of our very existence here in this great land. So, once again, Happy Constitution Day!
What makes this document so special and different from many other countries is that it involves a degree of trusting your fellow American’s. It involved a degree of trusting yourself to make the right decisions, and holding each other responsible for those decisions. The pursuit of happiness that each individual is afforded comes with the responsibility to each other. This one nation under God became a unified presence on this day, even though only 9 of the 13 colonies were present for the signing of the constitution, and should still be a unified presence.
It blows your mind to sit back and try to imagine what our forefathers would say about the constitution today, what they would say about the state of our un-unified nation, and our ever-evolving understanding of what they were thinking over 200 years ago. Think about that; over 200 years ago.
We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
