One key in successful preventative health care is a healthy diet and excise. And the computer is becoming an unlikely ally in the
battle for better preventative health care strategies. One of the main reasons computers are becoming a tool for preventative medical care is Internet based health care services. For example these services allow you to find a buddy who is making similar changes as you. Others, like MyVirtualModel.com allows users to create a 3D image of themselves and watch it change overtime. The health care services are also effective in providing immediacy, something a real life support group can’t. A recent study found that people who tracked their weight online lost more weight than people tracking their weight in a journal.
Nintendo will launch a service in April that will let users of Wii Fit receive advice from health care experts via the Internet. Players use the Wii Fit will measure weight and other date and then send the information via the Internet to medical doctors and other health care experts. The health care experts will analyze the information and send the advice to the users by email. Nintendo plans on selling their systems to corporate health insurance societies and health care advisory service providers.
